Class Description: Addiction and the Toxic Relationship
In Module II, we continue our exploration of the toxic relationship individuals develop with addiction. While Module I focused on the brain and how addiction is formulated, this module delves deeper into the relational patterns that keep people trapped in destructive cycles.
Addiction often mirrors the dynamics of unhealthy relationships—cycles of dependence, betrayal, and the erosion of trust in oneself. In this class, students will examine how unhealthy “attachments” to substances or behaviors persist despite negative consequences, and most importantly, how to begin breaking free from this destructive bond.
Drawing from psychology, neuroscience, and lived experience, the course offers practical tools for developing healthier coping strategies, cultivating self-compassion, and reclaiming autonomy on the journey of recovery.
At its heart, this class emphasizes a powerful truth:
“A healthy relationship with yourself must come first and foremost—and healing must start deep within your soul.”
